Our Trustees

About our trustee board

Paul Cooper
I’ve been a trustee since 2018 and became chair in June 2025. I became a trustee to help address the hidden hardship in the south Cotswolds, highlighted by my wife’s role as a headteacher in a local primary school. My experience running businesses in the energy industry proved valuable as Cirencester Foodbank successfully navigated the challenges of the covid pandemic and as the charity continued to grow over the last 7 years. When I’m not commuting to London I can be found out on the water at a local sailing club.

I joined the board in 2026, motivated by a strong belief that everyone should have access to life’s basic essentials, and a desire to support work that tackles the root causes of food poverty as well as immediate need. As teacher, I work closely with young people, including those with special educational needs, and see first-hand the wider challenges some families face. This has shaped my understanding of how issues like food insecurity can affect not just daily life, but confidence, wellbeing and education. I bring to the board a practical, people-focused perspective, and a genuine commitment to supporting the local community with dignity and compassion. Outside of work, I enjoy baking (often far too much), dog walking and yoga and spending time with family and friends.

I’ve been a Trustee of Cirencester Foodbank since 2019 and work regularly as a volunteer in the Tetbury Distribution Centre. After a career in the computer industry I spent 10 years working with start-up companies in Africa as a Business Development Adviser, before offering this experience to the Foodbank to try to assist in its mission of removing the need for foodbanks. I like to enjoy my spare time with my five very active grandchildren.

I joined the board of Cirencester Foodbank in 2018 and served as chair of the trustees 2020 - 2025. Having moved to the area in 2010, I was surprised to learn that the need for a foodbank existed in such an affluent area as the south Cotswolds. I joined the foodbank as I believe that access to food is a basic human right and the underlying reasons leading people to use a foodbank should be addressed. I have used my professional skills acquired as a lawyer, as well as my experience in the public sector, to navigate the challenges of increasing demand for the foodbank and adapting the foodbank's services to address the underlying causes of food poverty in our community. I can be found every day walking the beautiful local footpaths with my beloved Airedale terrier, Eddie.

I joined the Foodbank in 2021 as a volunteer and became Trustee in 2023. I am involved in the Governance and Personnel aspects of the foodbank and also act as secretary. I believe everyone should have access to support to prevent them being hungry, alone and unable to access services that could help them. Children should have enough food to learn and play. Unforeseen circumstances and poor physical and mental health should not leave people without enough to eat. I have more than 40 years’ experience of business and have been involved in charity work for 20 years. I love being outdoors, hiking with my little dog, gardening and growing fruit and vegetables, or curled up with a good book when the weather interferes too much.

I joined the board in April 2026. My interest in joining the foodbank comes from a strong belief that everyone should have equal access to life’s basic essentials, and a desire to support people in vulnerable situations. Through my work as a nurse in an acute hospital for over 25 years, I see first-hand the inequalities that exist within society and how they can impact individuals and families. I bring to the board experience in governance and safeguarding, alongside a commitment to supporting the charity’s work both in meeting immediate need and helping address the wider causes of food poverty. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, getting outdoors with my dog and keeping active when time allows.

I joined the Board as Trustee Treasurer in 2025. I qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2005 and work as a Fractional Finance Director, mainly supporting charities to maximise their resources and ensure sustainable futures. I’m keen to use my experience to support the local community and I believe in the Foodbank ethos of supporting people to not need to rely on our services. I can often be found walking my dog in Cirencester or spending time with my family.

I joined the board in March 2026. My interest in joining the foodbank lies primarily in wanting to help individuals access their most basic human rights and finding sustainable ways to help reduce long-term reliance on foodbanks. As a welfare benefits caseworker for the Citizens Advice Bureau, I have an understanding of what causes individuals to experience food poverty and have seen first-hand how increased financial wellbeing can mitigate this. Alongside my work with the Citizens Advice Bureau, I am an aspiring barrister and in my downtime, enjoy reading (for fun!), exploring new places and travelling, as well as spending quality time with friends and family
